Learn to Knit for Kids

If your child has been asking to start on a fun fiber arts journey, this class is a great place to start! We’ll break down our typical learn to knit class into shorter, smaller sessions designed for elementary-aged students entering 2nd-5th grade.

Come learn the basic skills needed to knit! In our class, we’ll discuss cast-on techniques and the basic stitches you’ll need to successfully create a project. We’ll master the long-tail cast on, the knit stitch, and the purl stitch. As we go, we’ll discover how utilizing these techniques creates different kinds of fabric and texture in our swatches. We’ll finish by learning a couple bind-off techniques. You should leave with the confidence to cast on your first simple project!

Note: Parents and Guardians are welcome to observe the first class if they wish; to ensure their child feels safe and regulated in our space for future (unobserved) sessions, but we ask that they do so in a quiet/unobtrusive way so that all students in the class  can effectively learn.

SKILLS NEEDED: Patience, determination, and willingness to learn something new!
