Class- Basic Top Down Sweater FALL 2026

Ready to conquer you first sweater? In this class you will be guided through the basic sweater construction of a top down sweater. Learn the importance of gauge, how to knit and measure a gauge swatch accurately, and how to adjust your needle size or technique when your gauge does not match the pattern. Explore stretchy cast-on techniques, including how to work the German Twisted Cast-On for garments that require flexibility and comfortable edges. Review what short rows are, when and why they are used, and the different short-row techniques available. Work increases to shape and build the yoke of a top-down garment. Learn how to divide the body and sleeves, place sleeve stitches on hold, and cast on additional stitches to create the underarm. Explore bind-off techniques that provide comfortable, flexible edges at the cuffs and hem. Learn how to return held stitches to the needles, pick up additional stitches as needed, and work sleeve decreases for proper shaping and fit.

SUPPLIES: Purchase your pattern and yarn prior to class. (CCY can help you choose appropriate yarns) Needles: start with pattern suggested needles - we can determine if you need additional needles after gauge swatching. Bring along basics supplies like stitch markers, scissors, ruler etc.
Homework: You can go ahead and start your gauge swatch prior to class if you wish. You can also, do your swatch in class if you'd rather.
