BEGINNING BRIOCHE (Harlow Hat)
Have you ever seen wonderfully squishy brioche knitwear and thought: I’d like to learn how to do this? It’s easier than you might think, and you can learn the basics in this advanced beginner course. We’ll start with 1-color brioche and then move into 2-color work, which creates a terrific reversible fabric.
SKILLS NEEDED:
knitting, purling and knitting in the round
SUPPLIES:
- for exploration and samples: 50 yards of scrap dk/worsted weight of 2 colors
- for project: approx 140 yards of 2 colors in worsted weight
- needles include:
- Size US 5/3.75 mm - 16”/40 cm circular
- Size US 6/4 mm - 16”/40 cm circular
- Size US 6/4 mm - DPNs (or a longer circular for Magic Loop)
- stitch marker
- yarn needle
- scissors
- a copy of the pattern, which you can purchase at https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/harlow-worsted
PRE-CLASS HOMEWORK:
please come to the first class with a swatch knitted with DK or worsted scrap yarn:
- cast on at least 40 stitches in total, even number of stitches + join in the round
- knit stockinette (all knits) in the round; choose your method: single circular needle, DPNs, magic loop, or two-needle method
- aim to have about 2 inches knitted before our first class
- don’t bind off your swatch but leave on needles and bring to class

*Classes and workshops require a minimum of 3 students. An emailed notification of cancellation will be sent 3 days before the class if the minimum is not met. In the case of shop cancellations, all registered students will be refunded the class registration fee. A refund of the class registration fee will be issued if you cancel 14 days prior to class start date. Student cancellations, missed classes, or no-shows cannot be refunded, exchanged, or transferred. All classes require an up-to-date Covid-19 vaccination to participate.
