How to Knit: A Beginner’s Workshop

Learn the essentials of knitting in this hands-on, beginner-friendly class. We’ll cover all the foundational skills you need to start your first project with confidence. You will learn:

  • How to cast onand bind off
  • How to work both a knit stitchand a purl stitch
  • How to recognize the difference between knit and purl fabric
  • How to make basic increases and decreases
  • How gauge affects fit—and how to measure your favorite sweater to determine the right size to knit
  • The basics of yarn weightsand needle sizes, and how to choose the right materials for your project
  • Please come to the first class with a skein of worsted weight yarn, 16 inch size 7 circular needles. (I’ll have stich markers available).
  • We’ll work on a simple and functional cowl-it’s a great first project.

Whether you're brand new to knitting or want to reinforce the fundamentals, this class will give you the skills and confidence to begin creating handmade pieces you’ll love.

 

SUPPLIES: Included

- one skein of light colored wool yarn, either dk or worsted weight

- circular knitting needle, either US 8 for worsted or US 9 for chunky (or size suggested by label)

- yarn needle

- scissors

- measuring tape

- stitch marker
